Last year I was contacted by a building manager to bid on the interior plants and holiday. It would be new product, not a take-over job. After going back and forth revising proposals, she finally gave all bidders specs for both bids. I didn't get either. No hard feelings. You win some you lose some. She awarded both to 2 separate companies. So now to my question: neither company has followed the specs. The plants called for flowering plants..they put in solid green elephant ears. The holiday called for a 14' tree, they got a 10' tree. Do I call her and inform her that the awarded companies are flowering the specs? I hate that they bare giving our industry a bad name by not delivering the correct product. Thanks for any input.

That could be considered sour grapes, but if the occasion arises when bids are up for renewal and the specs issued are identical to those you bid on this past time, that would be a legitimate opening for you to question the compliance with the specs and ask for "clarification" from the client.  The can of worms you open could generate some ill will in your direction, though, both from the current contractor and from the client rep, who might see your inquiry as a finger-pointing exercise directed at them.  Tread carefully.  Sometimes, it's not worth the hassle.
